Cacao Tahini Date 'Green' Smoothie

This was one of the most popular recipes from my Spring Clean this year. Seeing as I am now in the middle of running my Autumn Cleanse, I thought I would release this for everyone to enjoy.

My friend Rania makes these most amazing dates stuffed with almond butter. She has reminded me of how much I love dates stuffed with tahini and cacao. So I have mixed it here in a smoothie. I know Rania doesn't like the idea so much of tahini in the dates, because, like most, she thinks of it in hummus ("Hi Rania" by the way :-) ). Honestly though - give it a go!

Tahini by the way is also super high in calcium. More on calcium in plants another day.

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • A big handful of spinach (or if you go for kale do 2-3 big stalks - just the leaves when you have de-stalked them)

  • 2-3 tbs cacao powder (adjust to taste)

  • 1 heaped tbs tahini (you can add more if you try it and you think you would like more of the flavour)

  • 1-2 medjool dates (depending on preference)

  • 1 frozen banana (you will need less dates if the banana was very ripe before it went into the blender)

  • A tiny grind of sea salt (brings out the flavour but also helps you with your electrolytes)

  • 1.5 cups of chosen dairy free milk (not soya)

Method:

  1. Put in a blender - blend!

  2. Enjoy!
