Homemade Turmeric Powder

When my friend Rania told me about this I was so excited. I bought three bags of fresh turmeric from Riverford in my next order, and this week I got round to making it a reality. It was super easy and the result is amazing! Obviously it stains, so be organised in a way that this doesn’t cause any problems in terms of your clothes or the objects around you.

This is not a recipe per se but I wanted to offer it as inspiration for anyone with a dehydrator who loves turmeric, because this powder is unbeatable compared to the stuff you buy.

Delicious with cacao, almond milk and a dash of maple syrup heated to make a warm drink, as well as all the obvious uses for curries etc.

Ingredients:

  • 300g + of fresh turmeric root (what I had made 1/3 of a jar, so you could make 3 times this if you wanted to)

Method:

  1. Peel the turmeric with a carrot peeler.

  2. Slice into discs (about the size you would cut a carrot disc).

  3. Dehydrate overnight.

  4. Blend in a high powered blender.

  5. Done.
